The photographic series “If Everything Around Seems Dark, Look Again”, attempts to capture the vital relationship between human beings and nature, where nature serves as a safe environment and functions as a temporary refuge for those who seek moments of freedom, to escape the madness of the oppressive modern world, and to connect with something deeper. This escape may offer temporary relief, yet the problem persists.


Through its dysfunctionality, the modern way of living appears inhospitable, competitive, and unsustainable towards youth. The violence erupting at multiple levels, combined with simultaneous and successive crises faced by the members of society through the years, result in increasing problems of anxiety, depression, and further deterioration of mental health. The outcomes of this current socio-political situation, dominant in developed worlds, leave many members of society living in a state of exhaustion and constant struggle, where feelings of frustration, disorientation, incapacity, futility, and insecurity prevail.


The project presents individuals isolated from the urban environment and immersed in nature, in moments of collapse, gathering, redemption, witnessing their desperate desire to feel that they belong somewhere and feel safe. Simultaneously, it highlights the need to regain our relationship with the body and nature.


It's worth questioning how it has become acceptable for so many people, especially so many young people, to experience mental disorders at some point in their lives. Are these individuals more vulnerable compared to other members of society? Is there an inability to adapt to new realities? Could it be a healthy reaction to an unhealthy environment? Perhaps it's not enough to bring visibility to this issue, but to understand the causes and reconsider our lifestyle in order to perceive who ultimately suffers.

The series builds up onto an experiential situation and develops the problem that arises after the end of a relationship, while extending to the redefinition of personal identities.It attempts to visualize the internal situation experienced by the people in transition who are entering in a temporary situation, knowing that the old one is dying and wishes to move to a new condition. Through this initial uncomfortable process, which was characterized by feelings of emptiness, uncertainty, fear and tension, the ones experiencing it, are called upon to confront themselves, their desires and lick their wounds in order to reconnect with themselves. 
Lost in empty and wild places, into rooms or into the nature, they are able to communicate and express their emotions. Having no fear to show their true self throughout the transition and they keep moving forward. 
*The title is from an anonymous quote about the intimate connection between lovers and incorrectly has been attributed to the famous wit Oscar Wilde.

The project developed under the need for personal expression through a stressful situation, as a way to an exploration of internal turmoil and with the attempt to regain intimacy with oneself. At the same time, aims to explore issues of anxiety, depression, fragility and feelings of instability. The objects, the gestures and the bodies are in a constant dialogue, presenting the causes and the effects of this conflict and showing how painful and full of tension this process can be. 
The title is a reference to Bruce Nauman same titled sculpture with wax (1967).

I was born in 1991 and lived the first four years of my life in Avranlo, a small village in Georgia, in the area of Tsalka. The inhabitants of the village were Greeks, who settled in the area two centuries ago. Based on the ethics and history of their homeland, the Pontus, they built the village of Avranlo.
I returned to the village after 20 years. As an adult now, with my family. Moved by nostalgia, my grandfather and my parents wanted to return to their birthplace, to the place they grew up, loved and have been forced to give up. 
The story of my family is identical to that of many other fellow villagers. Forced by the difficult conditions after the collapse of the Soviet Union, they fled their homes.


	Klavdia (Klávdia) was the name of my grandmother. She was born andlived in a village of Georgia, until the day she and my grandfather moved to Cypruswith us. I didn't have with them a substantial relationship, language was a problem.They stayed with us for almost two years until they moved to Russia. I remember theday I’ve learned about my grandmother’s death I didn't know how to express myself.Of course I knew that when someone dies you have to cry and in some way grieve forhim/her, if you loved him.I was born in Avranlo and baptized Klavdia, same as my grandmother. When Iwas a child, everyone from my broader family used to say that I was exactly like her,meaning, I had a tough attitude and a need for independence.Moving to Cyprus at the age of 5 was a big change for me. Somehow peoplestarted calling me Klaudia (Klaūdia). I liked it for a long time, it was something uniqueand cute for a child.Until high school, the name Klaudia was replaced by the name Clodia (Klòdia).Clodia stands for my art persona, it was during that time of my life that I discoveredthe love for images.Now, as the years pass, the cycle comes back where it started. It’s my way tobe honest with myself.Klavdia is my name
